It replaced a variety of local coins and notes that were in circulation at the time. The franc was initially pegged to gold, but this peg was abandoned during World War I.<\/p>\n<p>The currency is known for its stability and is considered a safe haven currency in times of economic turmoil, much like Switzerland in general.<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss franc is one of the top ten most traded currencies in the world. Most days hundreds of billions worth are traded.<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss Franc is also one of the most expensive currencies, often ranking alongside or above the Euro and <a
