Not only did Angela Merkel end her tenure as Chancellor but also for the first time in 16 years, the conservatives (CDU) are no longer in government.<\/p><p id=\"09e8\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jx jy im jz b ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku if gn\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The new government is a mix of both continuity and change.<\/p><p id=\"3b2f\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jx jy im jz b ka kb kc kd ke kf kg kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku if gn\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Olaf Scholz, the new Chancellor has been a leading figure in German politics for a number of years. He previously served as Merkel\u2019s number two as both Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister. He is a well-known politician to the German Bundesbank and the European Central Bank.<\/p><p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The government he leads though has a radically different makeup from any Germany has had before. It is made up of Scholz\u2019s Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens (Die Gr\u00fcne) and the free-market liberals (FDP).
