The new Republic of Turkey introduced the Turkish Lira in 1923.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation has been a problem in Turkey for many years and the Turkish Lira has been devalued several times throughout its history.<\/p>\n<p>In order to combat inflation, a new currency was introduced in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The new currency wiped out six zeros from the old currency and re-established confidence in the Turkish Lira (for a while).<\/p>\n<p>Inflation is on the rise again though and the currency has lost a significant amount of value.<\/p>\n<p>The word Lira derives from the Latin word &#8220;Libra&#8221; which was once a name for a Roman Pound coin. Other countries with historic currencies named Lira include <a href=\"https:\/\/finseta.com\/ca-en\/country-profiles\/israel\/\">Israel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/finseta.com\/ca-en\/country-profiles\/italy\/\">Italy<\/a> and <a
